DC has become the window to the world, as the ethnic makeup of this city is just astounding. Our Ethiopian limo driver last evening (Wed) said there are over 200,000 Ethiopians in the DC area. For those of you unfamiliar, DC is made up of several neighborhoods, though it is often thought of as a homogeneous mass of people, with the Middle Class in the surrounding suburbs. Not so true!
The amount of time for pedestrians at street crossings is quite substantial, as this is a walking and metro bus type of city. Why can’t we do that elsewhere?
The area is relatively trash free, since they seem to know where to place trash cans and recyclers strategically. Another lesson for cities like San Francisco.
It is nice to see men and women in business suits. I don’t think it ever fell out of favor here, but we have certainly lost it out west.
I got charged $.05 for a plastic bag yesterday at Walgreen’s. This is fine, as long as the money is used for pro-environmental causes, and not the bottom line of the Fat Cats.
As the city awakens around 7am, it first yawns and stretches rather slowly, for in about an hour, all Hell will break loose. Same at dinner last night. A 7pm dinner is still early, as things get moving around 8pm, except for Happy Hours. This is obviously after all of the Happy Hours have been devoured.
I love to walk this city. Never know what one can find, other than the plethora of single women prowling the streets at 5pm. Turns out right next door is the Society for Neuroscience. Maybe I will donate my brain to them!
People on the city bus and Metro are much more polite than in the Bay Area on buses and BART!
There was a day when I could walk from the street into a session of Congress, and not feel like a criminal! Is this not the ultimate home field for freedom, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?
Food trucks are making a huge dent in the bottom line of bricks and mortar places. The only thing saving the bricks are liquor licenses and happy hour!!!!
The bus is only 50 cents here. Such a deal!
There are as many panhandlers and homeless here as any US city.
Hey all you single guys! You must move to Washington, DC. There are so many attractive young ladies to choose from. DC has a 70% singles rate. Seven women to every man!
