They quick answer is about an 80 minute flight from San Francisco. But coming on the heels of a week in Honolulu makes An Diego look a little different. Normally, it is a welcome trip, with great weather, lots of seafood, some friends, and a couple of Giants games. My Giants are no longer in the running to make the playoffs or defend their World Championship. But this trip was planned long before their seasonal demise, and certainly before the last-minute decision to attend a wedding in Honolulu.
Just for the record, let it be known the wedding was quite the event. The topper, if there can be one to seeing a lovely couple and their families unite under the swaying palms, was the appearance of Bruno Mars uncle in a trio of singers who entertained us at the reception. And the food was particularly good, better than normal hotel and wedding food.
But the focus today is San Diego, perhaps a future home, though once a twice monthly fixture on my business travel calendar. It is certainly appealing for anyone contemplating a relocation retirement home. The down side would be the crappy airport, and the proximity to Mexico. I say Mexico only for the myriad of immigration, and illegal drug importation issues.
My last trip down here was also for the Giants games, and a chance to practice taking animal photos for my trip to Africa last summer. Now Africa is a distant memory. I can just relax and enjoy the area.
The highlight of this trip will actually be a reunion with a long time friend and classmate from my hometown. This is a lady that everyone had a crush on, including me. She always dated the cool, “older” guys. But we got a big kick out of her anyway, through the high school years.
So, go Giants in somewhat of a lost season of nightmares. Let’s see some of the young guys play. And at least kick the passive Padres into the cellar where they belong.
