When your team makes it to the Super Bowl, it is really special. And when you can attend the game, cost notwithstanding, it is even better. Such as the case when I went to Super Bowl 47 in Nawlins, when the Niners lost a close one to the Ravens.
Yes, Nawlins is great fun, fabulous food, with many Super Bowl related festivities. But the best outcome was meeting my buddy, Dirty Pat, Ravens fan, famous labor attorney, Fulbright Scholar, and all-around hilarious guy. He invited me to stay with him in Bucharest, Romania when he was on a Fulbright. And he took me to a Raven Niners game in Baltimore a few years (in the driving rainstorm, yuk!).

So, yes the game is great, the venue even better, but friendships far surpass any of the ball games. Who would think that a lifelong friendship would be formed by a silly little chat over coffee and King cake on Magazine Street in New Orleans?
Those of you who know me, know that the friendships I have forged around the world are the most important part of my travels and experiences. Such is the case with Dirty Pat. So, to all the Dirty Pats in the world, I salute you!
